About

For 34 years, I lived in the middle of the country, surrounded by corn, cows, and gravel roads…and forever answering the question “What do you DO there, anyway?”

To be clear, I didn’t grow up on a farm but I have friends who did. I didn’t grow up in a major city either. I grew up in one of those places too big to be a small town, but not big enough to be a city. It’s the map dot the other smaller map dots go to for work, groceries, and dinners out.

At 34, my company closed our office and offered the opportunity to relocate, so I found my way to a Phoenix suburb. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer a few months later. I’m fine now, for the record.

I’ve always been pretty opinionated (just ask my mom), and after listening to the world ask what’s wrong with voters in the Midwest, in the red states, in rural areas, in middle America, I decided it was time the Midwest got another voice.

You’ll probably notice that I’m not the evangelical Christian laid off from a steel plant that you see on the news. I’m also not some hippy liberal type who relies on essential oils in lieu of all medications. I’m somewhere in between, like most people. Stereotypes exist for a reason, but they rarely tell you everything you need to know about a person.
